Trauma & Safety

Whatever your experience of trauma, I encourage that talk about it only environments that feel safe to you. The best therapeutic fit for your healing is with a therapist whose presence brings you a sense of comfort and connection.

Trauma is Relational

We experience trauma in the container of a relationship (or lack thereof). This means that trauma is also healed in relationship. Whether you are just beginning the process of healing or feeling more and more healed, I want for us to be curious about how your past may show up today and how we can make space for your lived experience here in the therapy room, and with your partner(s), friends, and family.

As we heal we find ourselves being pulled between our past and our present. What painful experiences we went through, what we got too much of, what we didn't get enough of.. This shows up relationally, and our significant relationships can bring these difficult emotions to the surface. If we feel truly seen, that includes the parts of us that may be hard to sit with.

Therapy: Somatic & Parts Work

Trauma healing happens in the body. Our awareness of our felt experience and the meaning we attach to it play a big part in this healing. For this reason, therapy begins with a practice of self-resourcing and building awareness. Learning to notice, understand, and calm your nervous system will be the foundation of our work together. We will discover your unique style of self protection, coping, and managing these emotions and sensations- and create space for each part of you that comes in and plays a role in what can be a very difficult experience of trauma related symptoms. This is to say that we will learn ways to be kind to your body. At the end of therapy your relationship to your trauma will have changed. You will have learned skills to regulate your emotions and come back to center more quickly. Your felt sense of safety will be something you care for tenderly and treat with respect. You may find yourself reorienting to relationships in a healthier way. You may choose to make other life changes that are better aligned with what a whole and fulfilled life looks like to you.
